Tell the APA Not to Condone Torture!

The APA has taken the controversial stance that the presence of psychologists makes the detainees at Guantanamo safer during interrogations. And yet, it is public knowledge that psychologists used their expertise to design methods of torture used to break down prisoners.

It's outrageous that the APA is being complacent to the illegal and unconstitutional practices of the Bush administration to the extent that it's activities and positions go against their code of ethics. It seems like the upcoming August 14th APA conference is a perfect opportunity for the organization to come down hard in defense of their “Do No Harm” pledge and to realign its stance on enhanced interrogation.

Email the APA's Department of Federal Policy and tell them to stand behind their own code of ethics.

Letter	To the APA: As a respected medical association which has declared an honorable "Do No Harm" code of ethics, it was quite shocking that the APA has condoned the presence of psychologists during interrogations with the Guantanamo detainees. These psychologists helped to craft torture programs designed to break down these prisoners. Please abide by your code of ethics and come down against medical personnel using their training to harm another human being.
