A
new
series of reports by leading progressive educational reformers documents how
44 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act, some schools in poor school
districts are underfunded – and the children they educate are still being
denied their right to an equal education.
Despite four decades of federal help for schools with large
concentrations of poor students, schools and districts with many low-income
students continue to receive less than their fair share of funding—based on
student need—up and down the nation’s highly decentralized system of public
education.
At a time when we need to ensure all of our children have a
world-class education to compete in the global economy, we can’t leave any
schools behind. I encourage you to look
into how we might properly fund the education that our children need.
