MDC Board: Tell Larry To Give It Back
Larry Mizel’s not listening. So many
of us tried to reach out to him and let him know that he should do
the right thing, and Give Back The Bonus.
Larry Mizel, CEO of Denver-based
national homebuilder MDC Holdings, awarded himself a $2 million bonus
last year. Despite the fact that his company isn’t doing too well
these days. In fact, America’s
economy and ordinary Americans aren’t faring
so well these days.
But Larry didn’t want to hear
from us; after he started receiving some of our emails, he took down
his email address. So now, we’re taking it to the MDC Holdings’
Board of Directors. We’re hoping
they’ll send a message that
Larry Mizel should Give Back Your Bonus.
Petition Text:
To MDC Holdings' Board of Directors:
We like Larry Mizel. He is a good citizen of the Denver area. But his performance as CEO of MDC Holdings has not been great. His share
price is down, not up. His overbuilding of homes contributed to this
current housing market meltdown and mortgage crisis. And most
Americans are worried about losing their jobs and even their homes, not awarding bonuses for poor performance.
Amid this mess, Larry Mizel decided to
change the rules of his CEO compensation policies and give himself a
bonus. Larry Mizel does not need a little more
money (a $2 million bonus) to add to his fortune, estimated in the
hundreds of millions.
It’s not fair. It’s not fair to
ordinary Americans, not to mention his shareholders.
Larry Mizel has a terrific opportunity
to set an example and help the homeless, in Denver and across the
nation. As a homebuilder, he could give the gift of shelter at a
time when so many Americans are suffering from George Bush’s unfair
and economically ruinous policies. I urge you to stop Larry from awadring himself undeserved bonuses, and to join us in asking him to donate last year's $2 million bonus.
