Close Guantanamo!
Guantanamo Bay today is a mockery of America's
greatest ideals: the right to a fair trial, innocent until proven guilty, and protection against cruel and unusual punishment. Most Americans - including leading Republicans,
Independents and Democrats - want it closed. The Bush Administration
has tried at every turn to operate Guantanamo Bay outside of and above
the law. It has been rebuffed by the courts, renounced by leading
members of both the Republican and Democratic Parties, and condemned by
the U.S. and international legal communities. It is time that our
Commander-in-Chief practiced what he preached - on liberty, on fairness,
on democracy, on justice - by closing Guantanamo now.
