Bush, Cheney and AT&T are Listening – and Congress just might protect them
The House of Representatives voted to capitulate to the Bush-Cheney demand that we give up our liberties by passing legislation that would allow the federal government and our phone companies to collaborate in eavesdropping on any American without a warrant. It’s time we sent a clear message that giving up our freedom to gain security leaves us with neither. Let's support Senator Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, in stopping the attempt to immunize the telecom companies for their past illegal eavesdropping. Americans who have been spied upon need to be able to have their day in court to fight for their right not to be wiretapped. Let’s make the Telecoms Liable for Spying on Americans. Petition Text: Dear Senator Reid, I support you in your effort strip the FISA legislation of telecom immunity. It’s time the Senate stood up to bullying by the Bush-Cheney Administration and protected Americans’ constitutional rights to be free from government wiretapping in the homes, unless a court has signed a warrant given sufficient cause. We need to send a message to the phone companies that have gone along with federal agents and eavesdropped on their customers – Americans don’t take give up their rights in a time of war. Americans who have been spied upon need to be able to have their day in court to fight for their right not to be wiretapped.
