Media Director

We’ve started a new progressive organization to take our country in a new direction—and we need a talented and dedicated individual to develop and implement a media and messaging strategy for the organization.

Progressive Future will tackle core progressive issues such as health care, education, global warming, and the war in Iraq.  We’ll work to make sure these issues are addressed by our elected officials, and we will hold them accountable while they are in office.

Progressive Future is seeking an experienced Media Director to join our central management team.  The Media Director is responsible for developing and maintaining Progressive Future’s relationships with national reporters, increasing visibility in national and local media, and working with Progressive Future’s advocacy and campaign staff to win issue campaigns.

Job Responsibilities will include:
•    Work with program and field staff to develop organizational and campaign messages and manage outreach to national media outlets
•    Organize compelling news conferences, media briefings, and teleconferences on policy issues
•    Partner with program and field staff for nation-wide report releases and other media events
•    Pitch stories and feature pieces to national media outlets, including TV stations, radio programs, newspapers, magazines and blogs
•    Execute rapid response for breaking news stories including writing and distributing  news releases and statements, developing targeted media lists, and conducting follow-up pitch calls
•    Manage national editorial board and columnist outreach
•    Support program staff in the writing, editing, and placement of opinion pieces
•    Field reporter inquiries for information or interviews in a timely fashion
•    Update and maintain media contacts

Qualifications

We’re looking for a goal-driven and results-oriented individual with a strong commitment to our progressive mission and grassroots approach to change.  The ideal candidate will have three to ten years of relevant, post-college, professional campaign or journalism experience including work in political, policy, legal, journalistic, or government settings and experience with organizational development and strategic planning.  Candidate must be well-organized, a self-starter, flexible, creative, able to work under pressure while keeping a sense of humor, and be able to work quickly and cooperatively on several projects at one time.  Excellent writing and verbal skills are essential.  We are looking for candidates interested in making a 2-year commitment to the organization.
