Friday night, we kicked off 96 Hours for Change: Progressive Future's Obamathon.

Working in Coalition with Environment America, we will mobilize thousands of volunteers to talk to tens of thousands of voters in the four days leading up to the polls closing on Tuesday evening.

If you want to get involved and haven’t signed up yet, click here.

96 Hours for Change is based upon two simple concepts:

·         We need to turn out every last progressive voter this year to be 100% sure to put Sen. Obama over the finish line (confirmed by recent experience); and

·         The best way to turn out voters is face-to-face contact in the final hours before the election—especially from a neighbor volunteering because of passion for the cause (confirmed by academic research).

So, over the past several weeks, we’ve been recruiting volunteers at the door, online, at rallies and events, and even bugging our friends and families.

While we were recruiting members and volunteers, we were also talking directly to undecided voters, telling folks why we think Barack Obama will bring the change we need.  Here's a short video that takes you inside the campaign:

But I squirmed in my chair when watching President-elect Obama's speeches praising clean coal as an alternative energy source. Because coal is neither clean nor safe, as yesterday's 500 million gallon spill of toxic coal ash in Tennessee painfully illustrates.

Spying on pacifists, environmentalists and nuns  12/08/2008

Among those labeled as terrorists: two Catholic nuns, a former Democratic congressional candidate, a lifelong pacifist and a registered lobbyist. One suspect's file warned that she was "involved in puppet making and allows anarchists to utilize her property for meetings."

Generals Propose a Timetable for Iraq

New York Times | 2008-12-18

WASHINGTON — A new military plan for troop withdrawals from Iraq that was described in broad terms this week to President-elect Barack Obama falls short of the 16-month timetable Mr. Obama outlined during his election campaign, United States military officials said Wednesday.
