We need to stop wasting billions of dollars in Iraq and start investing in global warming solutions.
A Nobel Prize-winning economist has estimated that we’ll spend at least $2 TRILLION in Iraq before all is said and done. A shocking amount of this money is being wasted or stolen by companies such as Blackwater USA and Halliburton. In fact, a congressional oversight committee has identified $28 billion in private contracts in Iraq “plagued by fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement.” And, the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction has called corruption “the second insurgency.”
Meanwhile, global warming threatens our very way of life—and the Bush Administration has obstructed international progress and refused to make the basic investments that can preserve our health and safety. We can have cleaner, safer power and protect our national security through energy independence. We need a new direction.
