Senator Kyl: Not sure people are dying from lack of health insurance - 2009-10-20

Senator Jon Kyl is at it again. After his famous claim (and incredible verbal smack down by Senator Stabenow) that employers should not have to provide maternity care because he doesn't need it, this Sunday Senator Kyl dug his hole even deeper. When asked if it was necessary to be concerned with the rising number of Americans who die due to lack of health care, Senator Kyl responded -- with no shortage of attitude:

"I'm not sure that it's a fact that more and more people die because they don't have health insurance."

Apparently Senator Kyl missed last month's Harvard research report which attributes 45,000 deaths a year to a lack of health insurance. It seems he also hasn't heard the thousands of heart breaking stories like this one.

Perhaps based on his previous statements, Senator Kyl thinks that because he won't die due to a lack of health insurance it's none of his concern if others do. Unfortunately, it is the concern of his 900,000 plus uninsured constituents in Arizona.
