The right’s attacks on President Obama's supreme court pick are absolutely disgusting—and have clear racist and sexist undertones. Leave it to the right-wing nutjobs to lower a debate about ideals and values to a set of sophomoric accusations dripping with misogyny.
She's been called racist, bigoted and dumb by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove and Ann Coulter. But perhaps the most vile comment yet comes from G. Gordon Liddy, famous for screwing the country in the Watergate scandal.
Liddy has this to say about Judge Sotomayor, courtesy of Thinkprogress.org:
Let’s hope that the key conferences aren’t when she’s menstruating or something, or just before she’s going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then.
Are we in the 8th grade?!
Lowering the career and accomplishments of a distinguished judge like Sotomayor -- accomplishments which she overcame no shortage of obstacles to achieve -- is immature and outrageous.
We could write and call Liddy and tell him what a jerk he is. That might make us feel better. Or we can take the high road, and make sure that this kind of filth is countered by the voices of thousands of progressives around the country who know that Sotomayor is a great choice for the highest court in the land.
