I have become a progressive activist as a result of a lifetime of gradual spiritual awakening. I have been fortunate enough to have been born with the ability to see the lessons in spiritual growth that the Universe is trying to teach me in all of the trials and travails that have come my way - and there have been many. As a result, I have become a more compassionate person who has learned that the purpose of life is to serve our fellow man. Values? I have biblical values just like the religious right although I don't belong to any religious denomination. Many of you who have Christian backgrounds like I do may recall this passage in the New Testament:
Whatever you do for the least of these my brothers, you do it for me. Matthew 25:40
This simple passage is the foundation of my political beliefs and of my activism. I believe that I should treat my fellow man as if I were doing something for someone very special - no matter what his station in life. I believe that I am charged to go out and do something to help and not to just watch from the sidelines. I believe that when my neighbors are lifted up, my life will be better, too.
I haven't quite figured out where the religious right get their values from although I have a family full of them. They are truly earnest people, but we are speaking two different languages. I know that I live my life in a state of contentment knowing that I am doing what I am called to do. I do not live in fear unless it is the fear that I am not doing enough due to my health issues. I see only fear in the words and actions of the right wing of our country - guns and prohibitions and more war - forever and ever, Amen.
I am a happy progressive activist because I can say my prayers tonight before I sleep and ask my Higher Power to relieve some of the fear in the lives of those people. I wonder what they pray about?

1) "A Nobel Prize winning scientist..." Doesn't he have a name? You won't win supporters by sloppy statements like that.
2) Progressivism involves necessary sacrifice by the fortunate. That means higher taxes on upper middle income (like me) and rich families.
When you admit that someone has to sacrifice for the good of the country, you'll get my support.
